Drug-Free Workplace

CDM maintains the Annual Survey Report (ASR), which compiles data and other information on Federal agency implementation of drug-free workplace programs. CDM also designed a web-based data collection application for the 120 Federal drug program coordinators who complete the ASR online. Currently CDM is working with the Department of Homeland Security to integrate the legacy drug-free workplace plans brought by the 22 organizational components that make up the department, and to complete user-generated process improvements in the ASR online application.

CDM also has created tailored information about drug-free workplace programs for small employers, supported SAMHSA's leadership of a workplace planning initiative by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, and operated a coordinating center for Drug-Free Workplace grantees studying various substance abuse prevention policies and practices in employer-sponsored managed care programs.

By a delegation of authority from the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration provides policy oversight for the entire Federal Drug-Free Workplace Program. Under this program, all Federal employees are covered by comprehensive employee assistance, supervisor training, employee education, and drug testing in carefully controlled circumstances.
