Leadership to Keep Children Alcohol Free
Working with national and State leaders, six Federal agencies, and the Surgeon General, CDM is at the forefront of a national campaign to prevent alcohol use by youth. The Leadership is a highly visible national health campaign with unprecedented assets—its science base; the reputation and prominence of the sponsoring institutions; the quality of the human resources in the practitioners, researchers, and policymakers who are contributing their expertise; and, most important, the prestige, visibility, and resources of the Governors’ spouses. The initiative has enlisted the active support of more than 40 Governors’ spouses who act as spokespeople in their States and nationally and 28 national organizations that serve on an advisory board to the initiative. CDM assisted the initiative with all formative work necessary to launch the campaign, which was initially funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Knowledge Application Program
For SAMHSA/CSAT’s Knowledge Application Program (KAP), CDM assists in making knowledge developed through CSAT’s grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements available to substance abuse treatment counselors and other professionals. KAP’s goals are accomplished through application of the latest theories in social marketing research, health care research and communications, diffusion of innovations, adult learning, and motivation to change professional practices. By using formats and strategies that reach and communicate most effectively with targeted audiences, CDM helps to support the adoption of new professional practices. KAP produces new knowledge through development of the consensus-based TIPs series of documents. We produced Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs) 24-39 and 41-42 from concept to completion. Based on TIPs, KAP Keys are handy, durable, laminated cards that enable the busy clinician or program administrator to locate information easily and use this information to enhance treatment services.
Quick Guides for Clinicians or Administrators clearly and concisely present the information from a TIP or other document in a pocket-size booklet. Each Quick Guide is divided into sections to help clinicians or administrators quickly locate relevant material.
When faced with a difficult or unusual case, where do substance abuse treatment providers and others responsible for providing care look to find the best method for delivering treatment to that individual in need? Often, extensive clinical research evidence and the experiences of others can help treatment providers improve their practices, but this information is scattered and can be hard to find. In other instances, research-based findings do not exist to guide treatment delivery. Fortunately, treatment providers now can turn to Treatment Improvement Protocols (TIPs) — comprehensive guidelines in specific areas of substance abuse treatment that combine the judgment of experts and evidence from clinical research and practice into consensus guidelines for substance abuse treatment. CDM produces TIPs from concept to completion, to help improve treatment for individuals with a substance abuse problem.
In 2005, CDM won three APEX Awards for publications excellence for products developed under the KAP contract:

eBriefings
CDM has recognized the need for multimedia capabilities, and stands at the forefront in this area with the development of our multimedia arm, eBriefing.com. CDM digitally records, edits, and produces both audio and video programs, as well as streaming slide shows, and hosts them on our streaming media servers. Programs produced for Government and commercial clients range from 30-second video commercial spots to hour-long speeches. Applications have been diverse, and include internal corporate training, health information dissemination, and association reports to their membership.
